Cheesy Bolognese pies

Cheesy Bolognese pies combine flaky puff pastry filled with savory cooked Bolognese sauce and melted cheddar cheese. The pies are folded and sealed to create individual hand-held portions, baked until golden brown with a crisp crust and a rich, hearty filling. These pies make use of leftover Bolognese, offering a convenient way to enjoy a flavorful mix of meat sauce and cheese wrapped in buttery pastry. They serve well as a snack, lunch, or party finger food.

Description

Cheesy Bolognese pies feature cooked Bolognese sauce spooned onto squares of ready-made puff pastry, topped with grated cheddar. The edges of the pastry are brushed with beaten egg, folded and crimped to enclose the filling, with a vent slit cut to release steam during baking. Additional egg wash and cheese on top help achieve a golden, glossy crust. Baking at 180°C for about 15-20 minutes ensures the pastry becomes crisp and fully cooked while warming the filling.

The combination of savory Bolognese and sharp cheddar melts inside crisp, buttery pastry creates a satisfying contrast of textures and flavors. Using leftover sauce makes preparation straightforward and economical. These pies are convenient for serving as portable portions that don’t require utensils.

Before serving, allow the pies to cool slightly to avoid burns from the hot filling. They pair nicely with a simple salad or steamed vegetables if you want a more complete meal. This recipe yields six individual pies, ideal for sharing or packing as lunch.
