Cheesy Ham and Potato Casserole
Description
This casserole layers mashed potatoes and diced ham for substantial texture and savory flavor. The sharp cheddar cheese melts during baking, binding the ingredients with a creamy consistency and adding a tangy richness. Garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper season the dish evenly, while caramelized onions add natural sweetness and depth.
The casserole is baked at 350°F, covered initially to retain moisture, then uncovered to crisp the cheese topping, resulting in a creamy interior with a lightly crispy surface. It makes a satisfying meal and pairs well with simple greens or roasted vegetables.
The recipe is straightforward, suitable for preparing ahead, and reheats well for leftovers. Cover with foil when reheating to maintain moisture. Using high-quality ham and sharp cheddar enhances the flavor significantly.
