Cheesy Pumpkin Gratin

Cheesy Pumpkin Gratin blends smooth pumpkin puree with eggs, heavy cream, and warming spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. Topped with a golden crust of panko breadcrumbs and melted Gruyère cheese, this gratin offers a creamy texture beneath a crisp, cheesy topping. It is baked until almost set, then broiled briefly to achieve a crunchy finish. This dish pairs well as a comforting side during autumn and winter meals.

Description

Cheesy Pumpkin Gratin starts with canned pumpkin puree mixed with beaten eggs, heavy cream, brown sugar, salt, pepper, and traditional autumn spices. This mixture is baked in a buttered dish to develop a custard-like texture. A topping made from panko breadcrumbs combined with finely shredded Gruyère cheese, melted butter, and optional fresh sage is added before baking. Once the pumpkin layer is nearly set, the dish is moved closer to the oven's heat source under the broiler for 1 to 2 minutes, creating a crispy, golden crust.

The result is a rich and creamy gratin with a balance of sweet and savory notes, contrasted by the crunchy breadcrumb-cheese topping. This gratin can be served alongside roasted meats or as part of a festive holiday meal.
