  • 1 ounce refried beans canned
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon bacon grease (or butter or olive oil)
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (I used Cholula)
  • 8 ounces Velveeta cheese

Instructions

  1. Add the canned refried beans, sour cream, bacon fat, and hot sauce to a small pot over medium heat. Stir until combined, then keep stirring frequently as the refried beans continue to warm up.
  2. Note: If you’d like super smooth beans, take a moment to blend with an immersion blender. Or add to a blender and blend until smooth and creamy. 
  3. Once heated through, add the Velveeta cheese. Keep stirring frequently, until the cheese has completely melted. 
  4. Remove from heat and serve with tortilla chips. 

Notes

  • Use about 8 ounces of Velveeta cheese for a balanced flavor between beans and cheese, though amounts can be adjusted to taste.
  • Choose canned refried beans with a texture you prefer; smooth is recommended for creaminess, but chunkier beans add texture.
  • For a super smooth dip, blend the warmed bean mixture before adding cheese, otherwise leave some texture as desired.
