Cheesy Sausage Wonton Bites

Cheesy Sausage Wonton Bites combine cooked pork sausage, diced green bell pepper, cheddar, Monterey Jack cheese, and ranch dressing in crispy baked wonton cups. The wonton wrappers form a crunchy shell baked before filling, while the cooked sausage and cheese filling melts and bonds inside during a second bake. These savory bites provide a handheld appetizer or snack with a blend of creamy cheese, seasoned sausage, and a crisp textured wrapper.

Description

This recipe builds flavor by combining sautéed pork sausage cooked until no longer pink with small pieces of green bell pepper. The cooked filling is mixed with sharp cheddar, creamy Monterey Jack cheese, and ranch dressing for a rich, creamy, and tangy mix before spooning it into prebaked wonton cups. The wonton wrappers are pressed into a mini muffin tin and parbaked to a pale golden crisp, creating individual edible containers.

The filled wonton cups bake further until the filling is hot and bubbly, allowing the cheese to melt thoroughly and the sausage mixture to compact slightly. The final bites balance the slight chewiness of the sausage with the sharpness of the cheeses and a hint of herbaceous tang from the ranch or blue cheese dressing. The bell pepper adds subtle sweetness and freshness.

These bites are suitable as finger food for parties or casual meals and can be served warm or room temperature. The recipe notes recommend shredding cheese finely for better filling consistency and packing the sausage fully for a substantial bite. Choosing a favorite dressing brand still allows flavor control and personalization.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • 12 to 16 to 16 ounces pork sausage or chicken sausage
  • ½ cup green bell pepper about half of a large bell pepper, small diced
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese medium or sharp, shredded
  • 1 ½ cups Monterey jack cheese shredded
  • 1 cup ranch dressing or blue cheese dressing

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Press a wonton wrapper into each cup of a mini muffin tin, pressing gently to the bottom and sides. Spray lightly with nonstick cooking spray (optional, but it helps the wrappers brown more in the oven vs staying pale colored). Bake for 6-7 minutes.
  3. While the wrappers parbake, heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and add the sausage and green pepper. Cook, crumbling the sausage into small pieces, until the sausage is no longer pink and cooked through. Drain the grease very well (so the bottom of the wonton bites aren't greasy after baking). Stir in the shredded cheese and ranch (or blue cheese) dressing.
  4. Fill the wonton cups evenly with the sausage mixture, pressing to compact the meat mixture just a little into each cup. Bake for 10-15 minutes until the filling is sizzling. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Finely shred cheese to help it melt smoothly and fill the wonton cups evenly.
  • Use the full 16 ounces of sausage for fully packed bites or reduce to 12 ounces for less fullness.
  • Select a ranch or blue cheese dressing flavor you prefer to tailor the overall bite taste.
