Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes

Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes layers thinly sliced yellow potatoes with a creamy blend of condensed soup, milk, and sharp cheddar cheese. Lightly seasoned with garlic powder and black pepper, the potatoes are parboiled with sliced onions to soften while preserving their shape. Baking until bubbly and golden creates a rich, comforting dish that combines tender potato slices with melted cheddar cheese in a creamy sauce.

Description

Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes brings together sliced yellow potatoes softened by a brief boil with onions for added flavor. These are layered with a creamy mixture of condensed mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, and black pepper in a casserole dish. Sharp cheddar cheese adds richness and a golden topping when baked. The final dish offers tender potatoes enveloped in a smooth, cheesy sauce with a slight savory edge from the onions.

This recipe is ideally served as a side dish to accompany meats or vegetable mains. The mix of creamy and cheesy textures gives a hearty feel that adds comfort to any meal.

Baking the potatoes with some of the sauce at the bottom prevents sticking and ensures even cooking. The recipe uses a 2-quart casserole or similar sized dish to allow the layers to cook through nicely. Cooking until the top is bubbly assures the cheese is melted and the dish is heated thoroughly.
