Cheesy Tater Tot Casserole

This Cheesy Tater Tot Casserole combines browned ground beef layered with a creamy mushroom and onion sauce thickened with flour and enhanced by Worcestershire sauce. Topped with green beans, shredded cheddar cheese, and crispy tater tots baked together, it creates a filling dish with rich textures from the creamy sauce and crispy potato topping. It's a make-ahead casserole that offers a comforting balance of hearty meat, vegetables, and melty cheese.

Description

Cheesy Tater Tot Casserole starts with seasoned ground beef cooked with diced onions and garlic, then layered in a baking dish. A sauce made by sautéing mushrooms and onions, thickened with flour and combined with heavy cream and sour cream, adds a smooth, rich element. This sauce spreads over the beef base, covered with shredded cheddar cheese, green beans, and more cheese, providing flavor and moisture. The final layer of frozen tater tots arranged on top crisps in the oven, giving a crunchy contrast to the creamy filling beneath. Baked at 375°F, the tater tots get golden edges while the casserole heats through, melding savory flavors and textures.

The casserole is suitable for serving as a main course for gatherings or family dinners. Its combination of protein, green beans, and potatoes creates a satisfying meal. The use of Worcestershire sauce in the beef adds a subtle umami note, and the cheddar cheese brings comforting sharpness. This layered dish has a hearty and familiar profile that many home cooks enjoy.
