Cherry Danish Recipe

This Cherry Danish pastry combines soft cream cheese filling with a flaky puff pastry folded into unique octagon shapes. The cream cheese is sweetened and flavored with lemon juice and vanilla, lending a subtle tang to balance the cherry topping of optional pie filling. Baking at 400°F creates a crisp golden crust that contrasts with the creamy center, making it suitable for breakfast, brunch, or as a pastry snack.

Description

The Cherry Danish Recipe uses puff pastry sheets cut into squares and purposely folded into octagons to hold a generous dollop of cream cheese mixture in the center. The cream cheese filling is blended with sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, and egg yolk which introduces richness and slight tanginess. An optional cherry pie filling adds fruity sweetness atop, complementing the creamy center. The pastry is brushed with an egg wash to promote a shiny golden surface and then dusted with sugar for additional texture. Baking produces a crisp, flaky exterior while the interior remains soft from the cream cheese filling.

These danishes can be served warm or cooled, offering flaky, creamy, and fruity layers. They work well for a treat with coffee or as part of a brunch offering. The distinctive octagonal folds give the pastries an interesting shape and structure.

Cream cheese should be softened properly before mixing to avoid lumps. Using a pastry brush to apply the egg wash evenly creates a nice finish. Watch the baking time closely between 15 and 27 minutes for an even golden brown crust without burning.
