  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 egg
  • 8 ounces sour cream
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 21 ounces cherry pie filling
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons milk whole
  • 1 tablespoon almond extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°. Coat a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. Mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon in a separate bowl, set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix with vegetable oil, eggs and sour cream. Stir until just combined. Do not over mix.
  4. Spread half of the mixture into prepared 9x13 baking dish.
  5. Evenly sprinkle brown sugar mixture over batter. Top with cherry pie filling, spreading all the way to the edges.
  6. Spread the remaining batter over the cherry pie filling.
  7. Using a toothpick or butter knife, swirl around to mix.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes. The top might start to brown, loosely over with aluminum foil.
  9. Meanwhile, whisk together the powdered sugar, almond extract and milk.
  10. Pour the icing over the cake as soon as it comes out of the oven.
