Chia Seed Water
Description
This recipe combines water with chia seeds and fresh lemon juice, then adds lemon slices both for flavor and visual appeal. The chia seeds absorb liquid and swell during a 15-minute rest, forming a gel-like coating that distributes evenly in the water. The slight thickness and mild lemon taste offer a refreshing balance.
The textured drink can be stirred or shaken before consumption to redistribute settled seeds, ensuring an even mouthfeel. The slight gel texture from the chia seeds adds a sensory element different from plain lemon water, making it interesting as a hydrating option.
It can be served chilled in a wide-mouth jar or glass and optionally sipped with a straw for ease. The lemon enhances freshness, while the seeds contribute visual and textural contrast.
Ingredients
- 3 cups water
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 lemon
Instructions
- Juice half of the lemon (about 1 ½ tablespoons of juice) and slice the other half.
- In a mason jar or other drinking jar, mix the water, chia seeds, lemon juice, and lemon slices. If the jar has a lid, just give it a good shake. Let it sit for 15 minutes, to allow the seeds to gel and plump up, then enjoy!
Notes
- Shake or stir the jar before each sip, as chia seeds tend to settle at the bottom.
- Using a glass straw can help stir the chia water between sips and make drinking easier.
- Let the mixture rest for at least 15 minutes so that the chia seeds gel and swell for the intended texture.
