Chicken Egg rolls with Sweet and Hot Sauce
Description
Chicken Egg rolls with Sweet and Hot Sauce feature a filling of small chicken strips sautéed with bell pepper, julienned carrots, and sliced mushrooms. These ingredients are rolled into egg roll wrappers and baked until golden brown, creating a crisp exterior. The accompanying sweet and hot sauce starts with sauteed ginger and garlic, mixed with chili powder, soy sauce, a natural sweetener, and thickened with cornstarch for a smooth finish. The sauce offers a blend of spicy and sweet notes that enhance the mild chicken filling.
Baked rather than fried, these egg rolls provide a lighter alternative while retaining a satisfying crunch. The sauce can be prepared ahead and refrigerated for up to a week. Adjusting the amount of chili powder allows control over the spiciness, making it possible to tailor the sauce to your preference from mild to hot.
