Chicken Gravy Recipe

This Chicken Gravy Recipe makes a smooth, flavorful sauce from chicken stock and bouillon, thickened with butter and flour, and seasoned with thyme and sage. The gravy cooks on the stovetop, resulting in a creamy consistency that complements poultry dishes well.

Description

The recipe begins by dissolving chicken bouillon cubes in heated chicken stock to form a well-seasoned base. Butter is melted in a saucepan, combined with all-purpose flour and herbs—thyme and sage—to create a roux that thickens the gravy and adds depth. The hot stock is gradually whisked into the roux to prevent lumps and cooked until the mixture reaches a smooth, thickened sauce. Salt and pepper are adjusted at the end to taste. The gravy is served immediately to accompany chicken or other savory dishes.

This basic gravy offers a balanced herb and chicken flavor with a velvety texture, suitable for spooning over cooked poultry, mashed potatoes, or vegetables. The use of bouillon cubes allows for quick preparation without sacrificing savory intensity.
