Chili Cheese Dip

Chili Cheese Dip combines Velveeta and cream cheese melted together with beanless canned chili and chili seasoning. Cooked gently in a crockpot or alternative methods, the dip becomes creamy and flavorful, served warm with chips for a snack or appetizer.

Description

This Chili Cheese Dip blends cubed Velveeta and cream cheese with canned chili that contains no beans and chili seasoning for a concentrated chili flavor. The ingredients are layered and heated slowly, preferably in a crockpot over low heat, until cheeses melt smoothly. Stirring occasionally ensures an even, creamy mixture without burning. The dip is served warm, making it easy to scoop with tortilla chips or Fritos. Alternatives for preparation include stovetop warming over low heat with regular stirring or microwave melting in short intervals. The recipe warns about saltiness from pre-made chili seasoning and suggests using chili powder instead or adding seasoning last to control salt.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 16 ounces Velveeta cheese
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 15 ounces chili canned without beans
  • 1/2 packet chili seasoning see notes

Instructions

  1. Chop the Velveeta and cream cheese into cubes.
  2. Add the chili to a crockpot and place the cheese over the top.
  3. Sprinkle on the chili seasoning.
  4. Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until cheese has melted and dip is hot.
  5. Set crockpot to ‘warm’ and serve straight from the crockpot with tortilla chips or Fritos or transfer to a serving bowl.

Notes

  • If reducing salt is desired, substitute chili powder for chili seasoning or add seasoning gradually at the end to taste.
  • To prepare on stove top, melt and combine all ingredients in a saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
  • Microwave preparation involves cooking in a large microwave-safe bowl, stirring every minute until smooth and heated through.
  • Serve warm directly from the crockpot or transferred to a serving bowl with tortilla chips or Fritos.
