Chili Frito Casserole

The Chili Frito Casserole layers seasoned ground beef, chiles, olives, chili, beans, corn, salsa, and taco seasoning topped with crushed Fritos and melted cheese. Baking these layers together creates a hearty dish with a crispy corn chip topping and melted cheese, popular for casual meals or gatherings.

Description

This casserole begins by browning ground beef with chopped onions, then combining it with chopped green chiles, sliced black olives, canned chili, chili beans, drained corn, salsa, and taco seasoning to form a richly flavored filling. After simmering to meld flavors, the mixture is layered in a baking dish with crushed Fritos beneath and atop the beef mixture, providing a crunchy contrast.

The casserole is baked until heated through, then topped with shredded cheese and baked further to melt the cheese, creating a golden, bubbly finish. The dish presents a balance of meaty savoriness, spice from taco seasoning, and textural interplay from the Fritos and cheese. It serves well as a filling main course for family meals or parties.
