Chipotle Guacamole (Copycat)

Chipotle Guacamole combines ripe avocados with lemon and lime juices, red onion, cilantro, and jalapeño for heat. The smooth, creamy texture melds with fresh aromatics and a balanced salty finish. It closely replicates the flavor profile found at Chipotle, served here with tortilla chips.

Description

This guacamole starts by mashing ripe avocado with citrus juices to prevent browning and add brightness. Finely chopped red onion and cilantro contribute sharpness and herbal freshness, while jalapeño adds a mild to moderate heat depending on seed inclusion. Salt seasons the blend to taste.

The preparation yields a spreadable, creamy dip with a slight textural contrast from onion and cilantro. It is intended to be served fresh alongside crunchy tortilla chips for dipping.

For storage, refrigerating the guacamole with plastic wrap pressed directly onto its surface reduces oxidation and browning.

Adjust jalapeño heat by including or excluding the seeds, which adds extra spiciness as done in the original copycat recipe.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 large avocado halved and pitted
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 1/4 cup red onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 jalapeno pepper stemmed, seeded, and finely chopped (see notes)
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro finely chopped, leaves
  • salt
  • tortilla chips for serving

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine avocados, lemon juice, and lime juice. Mash until smooth. Stir in onion, cilantro, and jalapeños. Season to taste with salt (I like 1/2 teaspoon). Serve with chips.
  2. To refrigerate, place in a bowl and press plastic wrap directly on top of the entire surface of the guacamole so no part is exposed to air.

Notes

  • Adding jalapeño seeds will increase the heat level to more closely match the original Chipotle guacamole.
  • Press plastic wrap directly onto the guacamole surface when refrigerating to minimize browning.
