Chocolate Banana Bread

Chocolate Banana Bread blends ripe mashed bananas and cocoa powder to create a moist, rich loaf with semi-sweet chocolate chips folded in. A warm chocolate glaze topping adds extra sweetness and depth, making this loaf a decadent treat with a tender crumb and chocolaty flavor.

Description

The bread batter combines all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and baking powder with creamed butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mashed bananas enrich the moisture and natural sweetness, while eggs bind the ingredients. Semi-sweet chocolate chips are folded into the batter for bursts of melted chocolate within the loaf. The batter is baked in a greased loaf pan until a toothpick inserted comes out clean, resulting in a soft but structured bread.

The topping merges half and half, brown sugar, and butter heated until bubbly, then vanilla extract and chocolate chips are whisked in off the heat to form a glossy chocolate glaze. This is poured over the cooled loaf for a sweet finish that complements the deep chocolate and banana flavors inside.

This bread is suited for breakfast, snack, or dessert, offering a balance of fruity banana and cocoa richness with bittersweet chocolate accents. The glaze adds moisture and a shiny appearance. Baking times can vary, so checking doneness is important. Cooling before glazing prevents melting the topping.

Ingredients

Servings

Bread

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cups cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 egg
  • 1 1/3 cups banana mashed, about 4 small bananas
  • 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet

Topping

  • 1/4 cup half and half
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet

Instructions

Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan generously with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and baking powder; set aside.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Mix in the eggs and mashed bananas.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir to combine. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake at 350F for 50-60 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Set aside to cool.

Topping

  1. Heat the half and half and brown sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture begins to bubble around the edges, stirring often. Stir in the butter and vanilla until combined.
  2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add in the chocolate chips, whisking until melted.
  3. Pour the chocolate glaze into a small bowl and set aside to cool completely. Once cooled, drizzle the glaze over top of the chocolate banana bread.
