Chocolate Chip Bread
Description
Chocolate Chip Bread is made by combining all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, softened butter, granulated sugar, egg, and vanilla extract into a batter with alternating additions of flour mixture and milk. Mini chocolate chips are folded in to distribute sweet pockets evenly.
The batter is poured into a greased and floured loaf pan, then baked at 350°F for approximately 50-55 minutes. A toothpick test ensures doneness. After cooling in the pan briefly, the bread is removed to cool completely on a wire rack to set the crumb and texture.
This bread has a tender, soft crumb with sweet hints from melted chocolate chips throughout. Variations can include adding espresso powder for depth, substituting vanilla extract with almond extract, or mixing brown and white sugar for a hint of caramel flavor. The milk component can be any type, such as whole, 2%, or plant-based alternatives.
Chocolate Chip Bread makes a pleasant everyday bread suitable for breakfasts, snacks, or casual desserts.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoons salt
- ½ cup butter softened (1 stick)
- 1 cup sugar granulated white
- 1 egg large
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
- 4.5 ounces mini chocolate chips 3/4 cup
OPTIONAL (for sprinkling)
- 1.5 ounces mini chocolate chips 1/4 cup
Instructions
Get prepped
- Heat the oven to 350°F and grease/flour a loaf pan.
Make the Batter
- In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat together the butter sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth
- Add the flour mixture and milk to the batter (alternated adding and mixing) until combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips.
Bake
- Pour batter into loaf pan and bake 50 - 55 minutes. A toothpick inserted in the middle should come out clean.
- Allow to cool in the pan 5 minutes, then remove to a wire rack and allow to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
- Adding a teaspoon of espresso powder to the dry ingredients can enhance the chocolate flavor subtly.
- Almond extract can be used instead of vanilla for a different aroma.
- Mixing half brown sugar with white sugar provides a deeper, caramel-like sweetness.
- Any milk type works: whole, 2%, or plant-based alternatives like almond or oat milk.
