Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter room temperature
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- ½ cup M&M’s
- flaked sea salt for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, add the butter and granulated sugar. With a hand mixer on medium speed, beat until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract. Beat until combined.
- Add the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder to the wet ingredients. Beat on low until the flour and cocoa powder is mostly worked in and turn the mixer to medium and beat until completely incorporated.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and M&Ms until they’re evenly distributed into the cookie dough.
- Cover the cookie dough with plastic wrap and place in the fridge to chill for at least 30 minutes.
- While the dough chills, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Once the dough has chilled, use a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop and scoop the dough out onto a parchment lined baking sheet 2 inches apart.
- Add 2 additional M&M’s and 1 to 2 chocolate chips on the top of the balls of cookie dough and slightly press in.
- Place the cookies in the preheated oven for 12 to 14 minutes until the edges are set.
- When you remove the cookies from the oven, tap the cookie sheet on the counter a few times to help the cookies sink while they rest. Allow the cookies to cool 5 to 10 minutes on the cookie sheet before transferring them to the wire rack or paper towel to cool completely.
- Sprinkle with sea salt flakes, if desired.
- Once the cookies are completely cool, place them in an airtight container and store at room temperature.
Notes
- Storage: Once the cookies are cooled, store them in an airtight container or storage bag at room temperature for up to 5 days
- Freezing: Let the cookies cool completely and then place in a freezer-safe container or freezer bag. Place in the freezer for up to 2 months.
- Thaw: Let them thaw on the counter at room temperature an hour or two before serving.
