Christmas Baked Eggs

Christmas Baked Eggs are individual eggs baked in a muffin tin with a dollop of whipping cream and seasoned simply with kosher salt and black pepper. The baking time varies to control yolk firmness, resulting in softly set whites and creamy yolks depending on preference. This method offers a straightforward, elegant way to serve eggs in a batch, ideal for breakfast or brunch occasions.

Description

The recipe involves preheating the oven to 350°F and lightly greasing a 12-cup muffin tin. Each cup is filled with one large egg cracked in and topped with about one tablespoon of whipping cream, followed by a sprinkle of kosher salt and black pepper. The pan is then baked for 12 to 15 minutes, allowing customization of the yolk consistency from soft to firm.

Cooking in muffin tins provides uniform shape and a controlled environment for the eggs to cook evenly. The cream adds moisture and slight richness, preventing dryness in baked eggs. The simple seasoning highlights the eggs without overwhelming their natural flavor.

Serve immediately after baking with any preferred accompaniments. The eggs can be spooned out carefully to include the cream on top, preserving texture and tenderness.

Timing depends on oven variance, egg size, and personal preference for yolk firmness. The example provided suggests 14 minutes for moderately firm yolks and about 12.5 minutes for runnier yolks.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 12 egg large
  • ¾ cup whipping cream
  • kosher salt coarse
  • black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Lightly grease or butter a standard 12-cup muffin tin.
  3. Crack an egg in each cup of the muffin tin. Pour a tablespoon of cream over the top. Sprinkle coarse, kosher salt and pepper over each egg.
  4. Bake for 12-15 minutes, depending on how soft/firm you like the egg yolk (see note). Spoon the eggs onto plates making sure to get all the yummy cream drizzled over the top and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust baking time between 12 and 15 minutes depending on desired yolk firmness.
  • Egg size and oven temperature can affect cooking times; watch closely to prevent overcooking.
  • The pictured example baked for 14 minutes, which yields yolks that are mostly set but still creamy.
