Christmas Butter Board
Description
This Christmas Butter Board centers around softened butter spread to form the base resembling Santa's beard and mustache. Cherry tomato quarters and halved mini mozzarella balls are arranged to create Santa’s hat and face features, accented with grated Parmesan and sesame seeds for texture. Dried black currants or blueberries form the eyes, with a small red berry or tomato piece as the mouth. Optional decorations include a rosemary sprig and a cheese snowflake to enhance the festive look.
The combination of smooth butter, juicy tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and salty Parmesan delivers a rich and savory flavor profile with varied textures. Sprinkling flaky salt and drizzling olive oil over tomatoes adds brightness to the dish.
Serve this board as a unique and decorative appetizer during holiday celebrations, paired with crusty bread, crackers, or vegetable sticks for spreading.
Using a heart-shaped board or parchment cutout helps shape the design. Butter should be at room temperature for easy spreading. For dietary alternatives, soft cheeses like goat cheese or cream cheese can replace butter, pairing well with smoked salmon instead of tomatoes.
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup butter
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 1/2 tsp salt flakes
- 1 tbsp Parmesan Cheese grated
- 15-20 mozzarella cheese mini balls
- 7-10 cherry tomato
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cheese optional, snowflake
- rosemary
- 8 black currants dried
- 1 red berries
Instructions
- The best board for this recipe is a heart-shaped cutting board. Just turn your board upside down. Alternatively, you can use a regular wooden cutting board and cut out a heart shape out of parchment paper. Place it on your serving board and create your Santa butter board following the cut-out.
- Cut the tomatoes into quarters and mozzarella balls into halves. Arrange them at the top of the board as shown in the picture.
- Spread soft butter to form Santa's beard and mustache.
- Sprinkle some grated parmesan cheese and sesame seeds over the butter to add texture and flavor.
- Fill Santa's hat with cut cherry tomato pieces.
- Place dry black currents or small blueberries as the eyes and a small red berry (or cut a small circle out of a cherry tomato) as the mouth.
- Decorate Santa's hat with a cheese snowflake and rosemary sprig, for a festive look but optional.
- Sprinkle the tomatoes with flaky sea salt and drizzle with olive oil for that final deliciousness. You could also add some black pepper.
- Pair with warm bread, a basket of baguette slices, pita chips, or any other of your favorite crusty bread and enjoy!
Notes
- Use softened butter at room temperature to make spreading onto the board easier and smoother.
- Arrange cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, and garnishes to create Santa’s face elements for an appealing presentation.
- A heart-shaped cutting board or parchment paper shaped like a heart works best to form the design.
- Consider guest dietary preferences; goat cheese or soft cream cheese can be alternatives for butter.
- Pair cream cheese boards with smoked salmon and tailor garnishes accordingly if desired.
