Christmas Morning Chai (Dutch Bros)
Description
Christmas Morning Chai (Dutch Bros) combines chai tea concentrate with half and half and white chocolate sauce to create a creamy, indulgent chai latte. The recipe steeps Earl Grey tea in hot milk for a fragrant base, adds whipped cream and nutmeg for finishing touches, and offers both hot and iced preparations. The drink’s texture relies on heated or foamed milk for creaminess, complemented by the sweetness and mild spice of chai concentrate and white chocolate. Variations include adding vanilla extract, espresso for a dirty chai, or using plant-based milks for a vegan version. A crockpot option is provided for making large quantities, perfect for gatherings. It pairs well as a comforting morning or holiday treat.
For serving, pour the hot chai and steamed half and half into a mug lined with white chocolate sauce, then top with whipped cream and grated nutmeg. The iced variation layers white chocolate sauce on the glass and adds foamed half and half over ice, then the chai concentrate for a chilled, creamy drink. Whipped cream and chocolate drizzle finish the presentation.
The recipe notes suggest techniques for frothing if a frother is unavailable, including using a blender or hand frother. Flavor adjustments can be made with syrups or extracts, and the crockpot method provides a slow-cooked version infused with cinnamon sticks. This recipe balances rich creaminess with spiced chai for a festive beverage experience.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup chai tea concentrate I used Oregon Chai, may also use instant chai packets or your favorite brand
- ⅓- ½ cup half and half this is what makes this drink extra creamy, use other percentages of milk or plant-based milks at your discretion
- 1-2 tablespoons white chocolate sauce Swirl some in the mug/glass and stir some in too.
- Whipped Cream to top the drink
- nutmeg fresh grated is best
Instructions
Hot Christmas Morning Chai
- On the stovetop in a small saucepan, heat desired number of servings of chai concentrate until simmering and hot. Or place in mug and heat in microwave. If using instant, heat 6 ounces of water until boiling, mix with instant chai until dissolved.
- Meanwhile, in a frother or on the stovetop, heat half and half until hot, but not boiling. See notes for how to froth if you don't have a frother.
- Squirt white chocolate sauce into mug, lining the sides if desired. Pour in hot chai, stir in white chocolate sauce if desired.
- Add heated half and half and place foam on the top. Top with whipped cream, grated nutmeg and a drizzle of white chocolate sauce. Serve immediately.
Iced Christmas Morning Chai
- Using a cold foam frother if available, foam your half and half. See notes for how to froth cold foam if you don't have a frother.
- Drizzle white chocolate sauce on the sides of the glass, then fill with ice cubes.
- Pour chai concentrate over ice cubes. Drizzle in white chocolate sauce (if using a bit more), slowly pour in frothed half and half, top with whipped cream, nutmeg and a drizzle of white chocolate sauce.
Notes
- If a frother is not available, heat milk or half and half and use a hand frother or blender to create foam.
- Adjust sweetness by adding vanilla syrup or brown sugar syrup to suit taste.
- The crockpot method allows preparation for eight servings and adds warming cinnamon spice.
- To make vegan, substitute half and half with plant-based milk and use dairy-free whipped topping.
