Christmas White Chocolate Chex Mix (AKA Christmas Crack)
Description
This recipe combines several crunchy and salty components—rice Chex cereal, mini pretzels, broken saltine crackers, and salted peanuts—in a large bowl. White candy melts (or white chocolate chips) and coconut oil are melted gently together, then poured over the dry ingredients and stirred thoroughly to coat every piece.
After coating, powdered sugar is added and tossed for an extra touch of sweetness and slight texture variation. Mini marshmallows and Christmas-themed M&Ms are folded in last, contributing a sweet chewiness and holiday colors. The mixture is spread on a baking sheet to cool and set for about 30 minutes, optionally topped with Christmas sprinkles for festive decoration.
This mix pairs sweet and salty flavors with a variety of textures including crispness from the cereal and pretzels, softness from marshmallows, and slight crunch from nuts and M&Ms, making it a popular holiday snack. It is ideal for parties or gift-giving.
Practical tips include gluten-free adaptations by substituting gluten-free cereals and pretzels and omitting saltines, as well as vegan versions by using vegan marshmallows and chocolate. The mix stores well at room temperature in an airtight container and freezes for up to three months when sealed properly.
Ingredients
- 3 cups rice chex cereal 90g
- 2 cups pretzels mini twists, 60g
- 1.5 cups saltine crackers or regular saltines broken into about 4 pieces, mini, 45g
- 1 cup peanuts salted, 130g
- 10 oz. white candy melts or almond bark, or white chocolate chips
- 2 tsp coconut oil
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar 60g
- 1 cup mini marshmallows 60g
- 1 cup M&M's Christmas, 200g
- Sprinkles optional, Christmas
Instructions
- Add the chex, pretzels, saltines and peanuts into a large mixing bowl.
- In a separate microwavable safe bowl, add the white chocolate and coconut oil. Microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between, at 50% power until melted (you can also use a double boiler for this).
- Pour the melted white chocolate in the bowl with the Chex and immediately mix together until the white chocolate has coated everything.
- Add the powdered sugar and toss again. Finally, add the marshmallows and M&Ms into the bowl and toss one last time.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking sheet and allow it to cool for about 30 minutes.
- Top with Christmas sprinkles, if desired, and enjoy!
Notes
- For gluten-free variation, use gluten-free Chex cereal and pretzels, and omit the saltine crackers.
- To make vegan, substitute vegan marshmallows, vegan chocolate chips in place of M&Ms, and vegan sprinkles if desired.
- Store the mix in an airtight container at room temperature, broken into pieces.
- You can freeze this snack mix in a ziplock bag for up to 3 months for long-term storage.
