Chunky Guacamole with Tomato and Cilantro
Description
To prepare this guacamole, avocados are mashed in a bowl to achieve the desired chunkiness or smoothness. Fresh vegetables are finely diced and mixed in, including Roma tomatoes, jalapeño peppers with variable heat depending on seed use, and red onion. The prepared seasoning blend imparts a savory, slightly smoky flavor with a touch of heat from cayenne pepper. Lime juice brightens the mixture and helps balance the flavors.
The guacamole delivers a mix of creamy texture from avocado and crisp freshness from vegetables. It works well with tortilla chips, as a topping for grilled meats, or alongside Mexican dishes. The heat level can be adjusted by controlling the amount of jalapeño seeds included. The fresh cilantro provides an aromatic herbal note.
Nutritional content varies with avocado size, so portions can be adjusted accordingly. The freshness of ingredients contributes significantly to the flavor quality.
Ingredients
- 3 avocado medium sized, ripe
- 2 Roma tomato
- 1 jalapeno pepper
- ¼-½ cup red onion finely diced
- 2-3 TBSP cilantro chopped, fresh
- 1 lime small
- guacamole seasoning (recipe below)
Homemade Guacamole Seasoning
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp cilantro dried
- ¼ tsp cumin or extra, to taste, ground
- ¼ tsp ground cayenne pepper
- ¼-½ tsp salt to taste
Instructions
- To make the seasoning blend, combine the spices in a small bowl and mix.
- Slice each avocado in half, remove the pit, and use a spoon to scoop out the avocado from each peel.
- Add avocado to a medium bowl and fork mash until desired consistency is reached. You can make this guac as chunky (or smooth) as you'd like!
- Next dice tomatoes and prep the jalapeño. Remove the stem and slice in half. For a spicier guacamole, leave some of the seeds intact. For a mild guacamole, use a spoon to scoop out the insides of each half of the pepper. Dice or finely mince jalapeños depending on desired consistency. If you haven't already. finely dice ¼-½ cup of red onion.
- Add onion, jalapeño, tomato, 2 TBSP chopped fresh cilantro, and juice of half a lime to the bowl along with the homemade seasoning blend.
- Mix and dive in with a tortilla chip to taste test. If you'd like, add the juice of the remaining half of the lime and any additional salt, cumin, and cilantro your heart desires. Enjoy!
