Cinnamon French Toast with Chocolate Yogurt Dip

Cinnamon French Toast is made by soaking thick bread slices in a spiced egg mixture and frying until golden. It pairs with a smooth chocolate yogurt dip that combines plain yogurt, cocoa powder, sugar, and vanilla for a mildly sweet, tangy complement.

Description

The recipe begins by whisking eggs, milk, vanilla, and ground cinnamon to create a flavorful soaking mixture for the bread. Thick slices of bread are thoroughly coated in this mixture to absorb the custard. Cooking the soaked bread in butter over medium-high heat forms a browned exterior with a tender interior.

The chocolate yogurt dip balances the cinnamon toast with the tang of yogurt combined with unsweetened cocoa, sugar, and vanilla to create a creamy and slightly sweet sauce. This dip adds a contrasting texture and flavor to the warm toast.

This combination works well as a breakfast or brunch item where the warming spices of the French toast and creamy chocolate dip complement each other. Using heart-shaped bread cutouts is optional but adds a decorative touch.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 6 bread thick slices
  • 2 teaspoon butter for frying

For the chocolate dip

  • 1 cup yogurt plain, 125ml
  • 2 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Whisk the eggs well, then add the milk, vanilla and cinnamon and whisk together until completely blended.
  2. (Optional) Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut hearts out of slices of bread. Dip each bread heart into the egg mixture. Be sure to also dip and cook the scraps - they taste great, too.
  3. Alternatively, just dip the slices of bread into the egg mixture. Ensure they're completely coated.
  4. Melt the butter in a frying pan over a medium/high heat.
  5. Let excess egg mixture drip off the bread, then add as many slices of bread that will fit the frying pan and fry until brown, then flip and fry on the other side. Repeat with all the slices of bread.

For the chocolate yogurt dip:

  1. Mix all the ingredients together and serve in small bowls to dip the french toast into.
