Classic Deviled Eggs

Classic Deviled Eggs transform hard-boiled egg yolks into a creamy filling mixed with mayonnaise, salt, and pepper, filled into the halved egg whites. This preparation balances richness with mild seasoning and can be served chilled as an appetizer or snack, with optional toppings adding visual appeal and flavor variation.

Description

This recipe involves boiling eggs until hard, chilling them, and then slicing in half lengthwise. The yolks are removed and mashed with mayonnaise, kosher salt, and black pepper to create a smooth, rich filling. This mixture is spooned or piped back into the whites, providing a neat presentation. The combination is flavorful but not overwhelming, with a creamy texture contrasting the firm white.

Deviled eggs are served cold and hold well for make-ahead preparation. Optional toppings such as paprika, cooked bacon, dill, or pepper jelly can enhance appearance and taste. Refrigeration maintains freshness and food safety.

Make the yolk filling up to two days ahead and store separately, then assemble and chill filled eggs for best texture and convenience. Store completed deviled eggs in an airtight container until serving.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 12 egg hard boiled
  • 1/3 /3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 /4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 /4 teaspoon black pepper ground

Instructions

  1. Prepare the eggs: Chill your hard-boiled eggs for at least an hour to overnight. Slice the eggs in half lengthwise and remove the yolk to a medium bowl. Place the egg whites onto a serving platter or in a container for storing if making in advance.
  2. Make the filling: Mash yolks with a fork until the yolks are crumbled. Stir the mayonnaise, salt, and pepper with the egg yolks until well combined.
  3. Assemble the deviled eggs: Spoon the egg yolk mixture into the egg white. You can also transfer the egg yolk mixture to a piping bag fitted with a star tip and pipe the egg yolk mixture into the egg white. Top with optional toppings, if desired.
  4. Refrigerate and serve: Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Hard-boiled eggs can be kept in their shells refrigerated for up to a week; prepare the deviled yolk filling up to two days in advance and store separately.
  • Fill egg whites with yolk mixture one day before serving and keep refrigerated until ready to eat.
  • Store assembled deviled eggs in an airtight container or covered with plastic wrap in the refrigerator.
  • Optional toppings include crumbled cooked bacon, paprika, fresh dill sprigs, or pepper jelly to add flavor and garnish as desired.
