Classic Guacamole Recipe

Classic Guacamole blends ripe avocados with onion powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, and fresh lime juice to create a creamy, tangy dip. Fresh cilantro and chopped tomatoes add a bright, herbal note and gentle texture contrast, making it ideal for chips, tacos, or as a topping.

Description

This guacamole starts by carefully removing pits from ripe avocados and mashing their flesh to a preferred consistency. Dry spices including onion powder, cumin, and garlic powder are mixed in along with salt and black pepper to enhance flavor. Fresh lime juice lends acidity and brightness, while minced cilantro and deseeded chopped tomatoes add freshness and texture. The ingredients combine into a smooth yet chunky dip with balanced savory and fresh elements.

The guacamole works well served as a dip with tortilla chips or as a topping for Mexican dishes like tacos and burritos. Garnishes of additional cilantro and tomatoes can be added for a fresher appearance. The recipe yields about 1.5 cups, typically enough for six servings, though amounts may vary with avocado size.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 3 medium to large avocado pitted and peeled
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin ground
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp lime juice fresh
  • 2 Tbsp cilantro fresh, minced
  • 2 small tomato deseeded and chopped, we like Roma variety

Instructions

Prepare avocados

  1. Slice avocados in half around the pit. Using a knife (don't hold the avocado in the palm of your hand for this!), carefully remove the pit. Scoop out the flesh, and add to a mixing bowl.

Mash

  1. Use a fork or potato masher to mash avocados, until desired consistency is reached.

Mix

  1. Add onion powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, salt, pepper, lime juice, minced cilantro, and chopped tomatoes.
  2. Stir well to combine. Taste, and adjust seasoning levels (or cilantro/lime levels), if needed.

Serve

  1. Garnish with additional cilantro and/or tomatoes if desired, then serve.

Notes

  • This recipe yields approximately 1.5 cups of guacamole, with actual volume depending on avocado size and flesh amount.
  • It generally serves about six people but can be divided into more or fewer portions as needed.
