Cocktail Sauce
Description
Combining common condiments including ketchup and prepared horseradish, this sauce is flavored with Worcestershire sauce and fresh lemon juice for acidity. Onion powder and a hint of smoked paprika contribute subtle depth, while optional Tabasco sauce can increase heat. Stirred together thoroughly and chilled, the sauce develops well-rounded flavor and a smooth texture.
The finishing flavor is tangy and moderately spicy with smoky undertones, suitable for pairing with cold seafood or as a dipping sauce. Chilling enhances the melding of spices and freshness.
This sauce is typically served chilled alongside shrimp cocktails or other shellfish, adding a piquant contrast that complements the natural seafood flavors.
