Coconut Macaroons
Description
The recipe combines all ingredients thoroughly and forms small spoonfuls placed on a greased baking sheet. Baking at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes develops lightly browned edges while keeping the centers moist. The extracts add aromatic depth that complements the sweetness and coconut texture.
This basic macaroon recipe yields a chewy and tender texture with slight crispness on the outside. Adding nuts instead of coconut or substituting part of the coconut with mini chocolate chips creates different flavor profiles suitable for varying tastes.
Ingredients
- 7 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 8 ounces sweetened coconut flakes
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 teaspoon almond extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Blend all of the ingredients together and drop by the teaspoonful onto a greased cookie sheet.
- Bake until the edges are lightly brown, about 8 to 10 minutes.
Notes
- For nut macaroons, substitute 1 cup nuts in place of shredded coconut and bake for approximately 10 to 12 minutes.
- To make chocolate chip macaroons, replace half a cup of coconut with mini chocolate chips before baking.
