Description

The Coffee Smoothie starts by dissolving instant coffee in cold water, ensuring even flavor distribution. This coffee mixture is combined with plant-based milk, rolled oats, frozen bananas, cocoa powder, and optional sugar or agave sweetener in a blender. Blending for about a minute creates a smooth base.

Ice is added last and pulsed to crush finely without fully blending in, contributing a slightly slushy texture. The smoothie is divided into two servings and optionally garnished with a sprinkle of instant coffee on top.

Taste and consistency can be adjusted by varying the amount of sweetener, milk, oats, and bananas depending on desired thickness and sweetness. Using thinly sliced frozen bananas helps with blending in lower-speed blenders, and chilling the coffee beforehand helps maintain a cold temperature without ice dilution.

  • 3-4 teaspoons instant coffee
  • 1 cup water cold
  • 1 cup plant-based milk
  • cup old-fashioned oats
  • 2 large banana frozen
  • ½ tablespoon sugar optional, or agave
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 to 2 cups ice

Instructions

  1. Add the instant coffee and water to a cup. Mix until completely diluted. If you have a frother, you can use it to mix it thoroughly.
  2. Add the coffee, plant milk, oats, bananas, sugar or agave, and cocoa powder to a blender. Blend for one minute.
  3. Taste and adjust any of the ingredients to taste.
  4. Add the ice and pulse until it's finely crushed, but not entirely dissolved into the smoothie.
  5. Divide the smoothie into two glasses and sprinkle some instant coffee on top as garnish.

Notes

  • Place soft ingredients and liquids near the blender blades, adding frozen ingredients last for easier blending, especially with lower-speed blenders.
  • Taste and adjust flavors after blending to achieve the desired sweetness and coffee intensity.
  • Modify consistency by adding more plant milk for thinning or more oats, bananas, or ice for thickening.
  • Use chilled or cold coffee; if using hot coffee, cool it quickly in the freezer for about 20 minutes before blending.
