Cola Pot Roast

Cola Pot Roast slow-cooks a beef chuck roast with vegetables in a sauce made from onion soup mix, mushroom soup, and cola soda. The soda tenderizes the beef while adding subtle sweetness, resulting in a rich, savory roast with tender meat and accompanying vegetables. It’s a practical one-pot meal with balanced flavors and a convenient approach to classic pot roast.

Description

In this Cola Pot Roast recipe, a 3 to 4-pound beef chuck roast is seasoned with kosher salt and coarse ground black pepper, then seared to brown the exterior. Carrots, celery, and peeled potatoes are added around the roast. A sauce blending dry onion soup mix, condensed cream of mushroom soup, and cola soda is poured over the roast before covering and cooking in the oven at 325 degrees for 3 to 3 ½ hours until the meat is tender.

The long, slow cooking breaks down connective tissues, yielding tender beef infused with flavors from the onion and mushroom soups. The cola adds a mild sweetness and acidity that complements the savory ingredients while also aiding in tenderizing. The vegetables cook alongside, absorbing the sauce flavors and becoming soft.

This pot roast can be served as a comforting main course alongside the cooked vegetables and pot roast sauce. It suits hearty dinners when you want a hands-off cooking method that delivers tender, flavorful meat and vegetables in one dish.
