Cold Brew
Description
This Cold Brew recipe uses coarse ground coffee beans steeped in cold water for 12 hours, typically refrigerated, to produce a coffee concentrate. The prolonged extraction time at low temperature reduces acidity and bitterness compared to hot coffee brewing methods. After steeping, the coffee grounds are separated by pressing in a French press or filtering through a coffee filter, yielding a smooth, concentrated coffee base.
The cold brew concentrate can be served as is, diluted with water or milk, or used as a base for various coffee drinks. Its flavor is generally milder and less sharp than traditional hot brews. The preparation is simple but requires planning for the long steep time.
Store the cold brew in a sealed glass jar in the refrigerator and consume within seven days for the best flavor quality. Avoid using fine-ground coffee to prevent over-extraction and sediment in the final brew.
Ingredients
- 1 cup coffee beans coarse ground
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- In a French press or large jar with a lid, combine the coffee grounds and cold fresh water. Refrigerate for 12 hours.
- If using a French press, press the grounds and pour the cold brew coffee concentrate into a clean jar or pitcher. If using a jar, pour the coffee through a coffee filter into a clean jar.
Notes
- Use coarse coffee grounds to avoid over-extraction and sediment in the cold brew.
- Store cold brew in a glass jar in the fridge and use within seven days for optimal freshness.
