Cold Brew Coffee

Cold Brew Coffee is made by steeping coarsely ground coffee beans in cold water for 18 to 24 hours, resulting in a smooth, concentrated coffee extract. It can be served over ice and diluted or sweetened to taste, providing a rich coffee beverage with lower acidity than traditional brewing methods.

Description

This Cold Brew Coffee recipe involves grinding coffee beans to a medium coarse consistency then combining them with filtered water in a glass container. The mixture is refrigerated for a prolonged steeping period of 18 to 24 hours, allowing flavors to infuse gently without heat-induced bitterness.

After steeping, the coffee concentrate is filtered through a fine mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth, nut-milk bag, or coffee filter to remove grounds, resulting in a smooth and clean coffee extract. This concentrate can be stored refrigerated for up to two weeks.

To serve, pour the cold brew concentrate over ice and optionally add sweet cream or half-and-half to taste. Adjusting the dilution by adding ice and water before topping with concentrate allows control over strength and flavor intensity.

The strength and flavor profile can also be influenced by coffee bean choice and steeping time, enabling customization. Avoid steeping longer than 24 hours to prevent increased acidity.

  • ¾ cup coffee beans about 1 ½ c. coarsely ground coffee
  • 3 cups water we recommend filtered water

Instructions

  3. Place in the refrigerator and let sit at least 18 hours or up to 24 hours.
  4. Line a fine-mesh strainer with cheesecloth and set it over a large measuring cup or bowl. Slowly pour the coffee concentrate through the strainer. You could also use a nut-milk bag or coffee filter on top of the sieve.

  6. To make your iced coffee, pour the cold brew concentrate over ice and stir to combine. Finish with sweet cream or half and half if desired.

Notes

  • Adjust cold brew strength by varying the bean roast, steeping time, or dilution with water and ice.
  • Do not steep cold brew longer than 24 hours to avoid increased acidity.
  • Serve over ice and add half-and-half or sweet cream if desired for a smoother taste.
  • Store cold brew concentrate in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
