Cold Elixir

Cold Elixir is a warming beverage made by steeping fresh ginger, apple cider vinegar, honey, cinnamon sticks, cayenne pepper, and a pinch of kosher salt in boiling water. The combination delivers a balance of spicy, sweet, and tangy flavors. This drink can be served immediately to soothe cold symptoms and can be customized with additional ingredients for extra benefits.

Description

Cold Elixir starts with boiling water poured over crushed fresh ginger, apple cider vinegar, raw honey, cinnamon sticks, cayenne, and salt. The mixture is stirred until the honey dissolves, then strained and served hot. The ginger and cinnamon provide a spicy, aromatic base, while apple cider vinegar and honey contribute tang and sweetness. Cayenne adds subtle heat that can help clear nasal passages.

This beverage is often consumed during colds or coughs for its soothing qualities. Variations include doubling the ginger and omitting vinegar and cayenne to soothe upset stomachs, adding citrus zest and juice for a vitamin C boost, or including chamomile or lavender for calming effects, omitting cayenne accordingly.

Drink the elixir warm for best effect. The recipe is straightforward and uses common pantry ingredients combined to support comfort during mild illness symptoms.
