Cookie Salad
Description
Cookie Salad blends instant vanilla pudding mix with buttermilk and Cool Whip, resulting in a light, creamy foundation. The addition of drained mandarin oranges adds a bright, juicy element while chopped fudge-striped cookies introduce a tender crunch. The salad’s texture combines softness from the pudding and whipped topping with mild fruity tartness and cookie bits. Folding the ingredients gently maintains the mixture's fluffiness and prevents it from becoming watery.
This dish can be served straight from the bowl or used creatively as a pie filling or layered trifle dessert. Chilling enhances the melding of flavors, and cookies should be added just before serving if stored to preserve their texture. Variations include adding apples, pineapple tidbits, bananas, or miniature marshmallows for additional texture and flavor.
Cookie Salad suits occasions when a sweet, creamy, and fruity dish is desired alongside meals or as a stand-alone treat. It is easy to prepare and adaptable for different fruit or cookie preferences.
Ingredients
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3.4 ounces vanilla pudding mix 1 box, instant French
- 8 ounces Cool Whip
- 15 ounces mandarin orange drained (You can also use apples and cut those up or both!
- 1 cup fudge striped cookies chopped

- Fold in Cool Whip and mandarin oranges. Add cookies if serving immediately. If not serving immediately cover and store in refrigerator. When it's time to serve add chopped cookies and mix until combined.
Notes
- Use buttermilk for a richer, thicker pudding base; regular milk will yield a lighter version with fewer calories.
- Fold Cool Whip and fruit gently into the pudding mixture to keep the salad light and prevent it from becoming watery.
- If storing before serving, add chopped cookies just before serving to keep them from getting soggy.
- For a dessert twist, layer the salad in a trifle or spread it in a graham cracker or chocolate crust for a simple pie.
- Keep leftovers refrigerated in a sealed container for up to 3 days; texture may change over time.
