Copycat Cheddar Bay Biscuits

These Copycat Cheddar Bay Biscuits are tender, buttery biscuits infused with sharp cheddar cheese and a blend of garlic and onion powders. They bake to a golden brown with a soft interior and slightly crisp edges. A savory melted butter topping seasoned with garlic, onion, salt, and fresh parsley is brushed on warm biscuits, adding extra flavor and a moist, rich finish.

Description

The dough combines all-purpose flour, baking powder, garlic powder, sugar, and salt with cold buttermilk and melted butter, which creates a textured batter holding shredded cheddar cheese. The biscuits are portioned using a 1/4 cup measure or scoop onto a prepared baking sheet to ensure even baking and uniform size.

Baked at a high temperature, they develop a golden crust and soft, cheesy crumb inside. The final step of brushing on a melted butter mixture with garlic and onion powders and parsley immediately after baking enriches each biscuit with additional aroma and moisture.

These biscuits can accompany soups, salads, or serve as a savory snack, adding a comforting cheesy element to a meal.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/2 cup butter unsalted
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk cold
  • 1 - 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded

Melted Butter Topping

  • 1/4 cup butter melted, unsalted
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • onion powder pinch
  • kosher salt pinch
  • 1/2 - 1 Tbsp parsley fresh, minced

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Melt 1/2 cup butter and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, add flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder and salt.  Whisk to combine well.
  4. In a separate mixing bowl, combine buttermilk with melted butter.  Mixture should look clumpy.
  5. Pour buttermilk/butter into the flour mixture and stir until just combined and no flour streaks remain. Fold in shredded cheese.
  6. Use a 1/4 cup measuring cup, a 2 oz cookie scoop, or even a regular spoon to scoop approximately 3-4 Tbsp of batter onto prepared baking sheet, leaving an inch or two in-between each biscuit.
  7. Bake 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.
  8. While biscuits are baking, combined topping ingredients (1/4 cup melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and parsley).
  9. Once biscuits are removed from the oven, immediately brush with the butter topping.
