Copycat Chick Fil A Grilled Chicken Club
Description
The Copycat Chick Fil A Grilled Chicken Club starts with thinly sliced boneless skinless chicken breasts marinated in a mix of dill pickle juice, milk, powdered sugar, garlic and onion powders, and spices. This marinade tenderizes and imparts a signature tangy flavor to the chicken. After marinating, the chicken is grilled until cooked through and topped with slices of pepper jack cheese to melt slightly.
A homemade honey roasted BBQ sauce made from mayonnaise, sweet barbecue sauce, honey, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and smoked paprika is prepared to add a rich and slightly sweet component. The sandwich is assembled on multigrain buns with crisp lettuce, beefsteak tomato slices, and thick-cut applewood smoked bacon crisped and halved. This combination creates layers of flavor and texture from the juicy grilled chicken, melty cheese, savory bacon, fresh vegetables, and creamy tangy sauce.
Leftovers can be stored unassembled in the fridge for up to three days and reheated carefully to avoid drying the chicken. The chicken also freezes well for up to three months. The sauce recipe makes extra, which can be used as a versatile dip.
Ingredients
Chicken
- 2 large chicken breast boneless skinless
- ½ cup dill pickle juice
- ¼ cup milk whole
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
Honey Roasted BBQ Sauce
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup barbecue sauce sweet
- ¼ cup honey
- 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice freshly squeezed
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
Sandwich
- 4 lices pepper jack cheese or Colby jack cheese
- 4 multigrain buns
- 4 leaves green lettuce
- 4 lices beefsteak tomato
- 4 lices Bacon cooked crispy and cut in half, thick-cut, applewood smoked
Instructions
- Cut the chicken breasts in half lengthwise to create 4 thin-cut breasts. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the pickle juice, milk, powdered sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, salt, and paprika.
- Add the chicken to the marinade and coat the chicken. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, up to 4 hours.
- While the chicken is marinating, make the sauce. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, bbq sauce, honey, dijon, lemon juice, and paprika. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge until ready to use.
- Preheat a grill pan over medium heat. (You can also use a large skillet or preheat your grill.). Cook the chicken, flipping occasionally until an internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F in the thickest part of the breast, up to 15 minutes total.
- Take the chicken off the heat and top each breast with a slice of cheese to melt slightly.
- To assemble, remove the tops of the buns, add lettuce and a tomato slice to the bottom bun. Then place a piece of chicken over the veggies followed by two half slices of bacon side-by-side.
- Spread the honey roasted bbq sauce on the bottom side of the top bun before placing it on top of the sandwich. Serve warm.
Notes
- Marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes to achieve tender and flavorful meat; avoid exceeding 4 hours to prevent over-marination.
- Leftover chicken should be stored unassembled in the refrigerator for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
- Reheat chicken gently in the microwave or oven to keep it tender, or enjoy it cold for a different sandwich experience.
- Extra chicken can be frozen for up to 3 months; thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.
- The homemade honey roasted BBQ sauce makes more than needed for the sandwiches and works well as a dip or condiment on other dishes.
- Omit cheese and bacon to create a classic Chick-fil-A style grilled chicken sandwich.
