Copycat Chick Fil A Mac and Cheese

Report
This Copycat Chick Fil A Mac and Cheese uses elbow macaroni cooked gently in milk and water until tender, then combined with a blend of American, cheddar, BellaVitano Gold, Romano, and Parmesan cheeses. The result is a creamy, cheesy pasta topped with melted cheese browned under a broiler for a rich, golden finish.

Description

The recipe begins by simmering elbow macaroni in a mixture of water, milk, salt, and pepper to achieve a creamy cooking liquid that partially thickens as the pasta cooks. This gentle simmer requires frequent stirring to prevent scorching and maintain a velvety texture.

Once cooked, multiple cheeses are added in sequence—starting with torn American cheese slices, then shredded cheddar, BellaVitano Gold, Romano, and finally grated Parmesan. Each addition is stirred until melted and fully incorporated, ensuring a smooth and rich cheese sauce envelops the pasta.

The cooked mac and cheese is then transferred to a baking dish, topped with remaining cheddar cheese, and briefly broiled until the top layer melts and lightly browns, creating a slightly crisp contrast to the creamy interior. This dish is served warm and pairs well as a comforting side or main course for cheese lovers.

If BellaVitano Gold cheese is not available, it can be replaced with additional Parmesan to maintain the complex cheesy flavors. Using American cheese slices torn into smaller pieces aids in even melting and smooth consistency.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 4 oz American cheese
  • 1 1/2 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1/4 cup cheese shredded, BellaVitano Gold
  • 1/4 cup Romano cheese shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese grated

Instructions

  1. Add the water, milk, pasta, salt and pepper to a medium size pot.
  2. Heat over medium heat and bring to a low simmer. Stir frequently and watch closely so that the milk does not over boil. Then reduce the heat to low and cook until the pasta is done which should take approximately 8-10 minutes. Stir frequently and add more water if needed as the pasta will absorb the liquid.
  3. Remove the pot from the heat.
  4. Then stir in the cheeses one at a time, starting with the American cheese (torn into smaller pieces), 1 cup of the cheddar cheese and then with each of the other shredded cheese. Stir constantly until each cheese is fully melted and incorporated.
  5. Pour the mac and cheese mixture into an 8X8 baking pan, top with the remaining shredded cheese and broil for 3-5 minutes until the cheese on top is melted. Serve immediately while warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Tear American cheese slices into smaller pieces for easier melting and smoother sauce.
  • Substitute BellaVitano Gold cheese with extra Parmesan cheese if not available.
