Copycat Chick Fil A Nuggets

Report
Copycat Chick Fil A Nuggets use bite-sized, boneless chicken breast pieces marinated in dill pickle juice to tenderize and flavor. The chicken is dipped in an egg-milk mixture, then coated in a seasoned flour blend with confectioners’ sugar, paprika, salt, and pepper before frying in peanut or canola oil until golden and crispy. This sequence creates tender, flavorful nuggets with a balanced crispy crust reminiscent of the original fast food classic.

Description

This recipe begins by marinating cut chicken breast pieces in dill pickle juice to impart acidity and moisture. After marinating, the excess juice is drained off, and the chicken pieces are dipped in a mixture of milk and egg. They are then coated thoroughly in a seasoned flour blend containing flour, confectioners’ sugar, paprika, black pepper, and salt. The sugar adds a subtle sweetness that supports caramelization during frying.

The coated chicken is fried in hot peanut or canola oil until golden brown and crisp, resulting in nuggets that contrast a crunchy outer crust with juicy, tender chicken inside. Draining on paper towels reduces excess oil, preserving texture and flavor.

These nuggets aim to replicate the flavor profile and texture of Chick Fil A’s signature item, using simple ingredients and methods suited for home cooking.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 chicken breast cut into 1 inch pieces, boneless skinless
  • 1 cup dill pickle juice
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • peanut oil or canola oil; for frying

Instructions

  1. Combine the chicken and pickle juice in a medium size bowl. Cover and refrigerate to marinate the chicken in the pickle juice for 30-60 minutes (or overnight).
  2. Remove the chicken from the refrigerator and drain off the pickle juice.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Then pour this mixture over the chicken pieces.
  4. Then in a large ziplock bag, add the flour, sugar, paprika, salt and pepper. Seal the bag and shake to combine all the ingredients.
  5. Drain the excess milk mixture off the chicken and place the chicken in the ziplock bag with the flour mixture. Seal the bag and then shake to thoroughly coat the chicken pieces in the flour mixture.
  6. Then heat the peanut oil or canola oil in a large pan over medium heat or in a fryer.
  7. Working in batches, add the chicken to the hot oil and cook until the chicken is golden brown and crispy (approximately 3-5 minutes). Once cooked, move the chicken to a plate lined with a paper towel to soak up the excess oil.
  8. Serve immediately while warm with your favorite dipping sauces!
