Description
These bath bombs are made by mixing dry ingredients like baking soda, cornstarch, sea salt, and cream of tartar with wet ingredients including warmed coconut oil, scented oil, and water. Food colorings can be added to customize the appearance. After thorough mixing, the dampened mixture is packed tightly into molds and left to dry for at least 24 hours to harden.
The resulting bath bombs fizz softly when added to a warm bath, dispersing fragrance and minerals from the sea salt for a soothing bathing experience. Various molds allow creative shapes and sizes. This recipe replicates the texture and presentation of the popular Lush brand bath bombs at home.
Use a lightly scented oil or food-safe fragrance for best results. Ensure the coconut oil is warm and runny to incorporate easily into the dry mix. Dry the bombs on racks or cookie sheets in a dry environment to prevent premature fizzing. Once dry, store them in an airtight container until use.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients:
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup sea salt coarse
- 1/4 cup cream of tartar
Wet Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil warmed and softened so it's runny.
- 2 teaspoons scented oil (8 to 10 drops essential oil, or 2 tablespoons food extract)
- 2 tablespoons water
- Food Coloring a few drops of any color you want
- soap coloring a few drops of any color you want
- Bath bomb molds (you can use fun shapes or ice cube molds as well)
Instructions
- Combine all the dry ingredients in a large bowl
- Stir together the wet ingredients in a small bowl.
- Slowly pour and whisk the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients.
- Firmly press the mixture into molds.
- Turn over the bath bombs onto drying racks or a large cookie sheet to dry.
- Leave molded bath bombs out to dry for at least 24 hours.
- Add to a warm bath and enjoy!
