Copycat Texas Roadhouse Rolls with Cinnamon Honey Butter

Copycat Texas Roadhouse Rolls are soft, slightly sweet dinner rolls made by proofing yeast and mixing with milk, butter, sugar, flour, and egg. The dough is kneaded, left to rise, rolled out, cut into squares, and baked tender. Served warm alongside a cinnamon honey butter, these rolls offer a pleasant balance of mild sweetness and soft texture.

Description

The recipe begins by activating yeast in warm water with sugar, then mixing with lukewarm milk, melted butter, and a combination of sugar, egg, salt, and flour to form a soft dough. After resting and rising until doubled, the dough is rolled out to about half an inch thickness, then cut into squares and baked until golden. This produces tender rolls with a light crumb and slight sweetness reminiscent of the classic Texas Roadhouse rolls.

The accompanying cinnamon honey butter combines warmth and sweetness, enhancing the rolls’ flavor and making them suitable as a side for meals or snacks. The baking process ensures a soft interior with a delicate crust.

The recipe notes original poster dates but does not specify storage or reheating methods, but generally these rolls can be kept covered at room temperature for a day or frozen for longer storage.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ¼ cup water warm
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 3-4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • cinnamon honey butter

Instructions

  1. In the bottom of your stand mixer bowl, add 2 teaspoons active dry yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar to ¼ cup warm water. Allow yeast to proof, or double in size, which takes about 5 minutes.
  2. Place 1 cup milk in the microwave for 45 seconds. Add 1 tablespoon melted butter to the milk and stir until completely melted. Allow the milk to cool until it is lukewarm.
  3. Once the yeast has doubled, add the milk to the yeast mixture. Add ¼ cup sugar and about half of the 3-4 cups all-purpose flour and mix until it reaches the consistency of a muffin batter. Let rest for 10 minutes.
  4. Add 1 egg and 1 teaspoon salt to the mixture. Mix well. Add the remaining flour to form a soft dough. Knead the dough until it is smooth and satiny.
  5. Cover and let rise until it doubles in size. Once it has doubled, punch the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  6. Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough into a large rectangle, about a ½-inch thick. Cut the rectangle in half, then cut each half into 6 square pieces with a pizza cutter.
  7. Place rolls on a greased baking sheet and allow them to rise until doubled in size.
  8. Bake the rolls at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  9. To make the honey butter, whip together butter, powdered sugar, honey, and cinnamon and serve on warm rolls.

Notes

  • Proof yeast in warm water with sugar until doubled to ensure active yeast and proper rise.
  • Allow dough to rise until doubled before shaping and baking for soft texture.
  • Roll dough to about ½-inch thickness for even baking and tender crumb.
  • Serve rolls warm with cinnamon honey butter for best flavor and texture.
