Corn Au Gratin
Description
This Corn Au Gratin recipe starts with a butter and flour roux cooked briefly before adding milk to form a smooth white sauce. Sweet corn kernels are stirred into this mixture and then poured into a buttered casserole dish. A base layer of cracker crumbs is added for texture, followed by the corn mixture, and then topped with shredded cheddar cheese and more cracker crumbs to create a crispy surface once baked.
The dish bakes at 350°F for 30 minutes until the top is golden and the sauce is bubbling. The cheddar cheese provides a sharp, creamy contrast to the sweet corn, while the cracker crumbs add a toasted crunch. The overall texture features a creamy interior with a firm, crisp topping.
Corn Au Gratin is an approachable side that pairs nicely with roasted meats or as a comforting component in a meal. Its richness makes it suitable for cooler weather or when a hearty vegetable accompaniment is desired.
