Cornbread Casserole
Description
The Cornbread Casserole features a combination of dry ingredients including cornmeal and flour, which provide a soft crumb and subtle texture. The wet ingredients—melted butter, eggs, creamed corn, and sour cream—add moisture and richness. Cheese and additional corn kernels are optional additions to boost flavor and texture.
During baking at 350°F, the mixture sets into a light golden crust while staying moist inside due to the sour cream and creamed corn. The sugar adds a gentle sweetness that balances the savory elements.
This casserole pairs well with a variety of main dishes such as grilled meats or stews and can be served warm. It is suitable for family meals or gatherings.
The recipe allows substitution of canned corn with thawed frozen corn. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to five days or frozen, with reheating recommended to restore texture. Variations can include adding bacon bits, diced green chilis, jalapenos, or different cheeses for more flavor intensity.
