Cornmeal Mush

Cornmeal Mush is a creamy cornmeal porridge made by gently cooking cornmeal and milk in boiling water until thickened. The smooth, slightly thick texture and mild corn flavor make it a warm and comforting dish often served with cream and maple syrup for sweetness.

Description

This Cornmeal Mush recipe involves boiling water then gradually stirring in a mixture of cornmeal, milk, and salt. The mixture is brought back to a boil and then simmered while stirring frequently to avoid lumps. Cooking continues until thickened to the desired consistency, producing a smooth, creamy porridge-like dish with a mild corn taste.

The dish is served warm, commonly accompanied by cream and maple syrup to add richness and sweetness. It highlights the simplicity of cornmeal cooked in liquid to create a soft and soothing base.

Cornmeal Mush can be eaten as breakfast or a light meal; its straightforward ingredients and preparation emphasize ease and comfort.
