Cowboy Butter Recipe
Description
This Cowboy Butter Recipe uses softened unsalted butter as a base that is mixed thoroughly with minced garlic, Dijon or brown mustard, and fresh lemon juice and zest for acidity. A combination of fresh chopped herbs such as parsley, chives, and thyme adds brightness. Spices including smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes provide smoky heat and warmth. Salt and black pepper adjust seasoning to taste.
The butter mixture can be gently melted in a pan and stirred until combined, ready to spoon over grilled meats or vegetables as a flavorful sauce. Alternatively, it can be fully mixed then shaped into a log with plastic wrap and refrigerated until firm. Slices from this compound butter can be served atop hot dishes to impart concentrated flavor and richness.
This versatile butter is useful for adding a punch of spicy, herbaceous flavor to a variety of grilled or roasted foods, enhancing richness and complexity as it melts.
