Cowboy Homemade Baked Beans

Cowboy Homemade Baked Beans combine thick-cut bacon, pinto and black beans, and a flavorful sauce of BBQ, brown sugar, and mustard, simmered to meld smokiness, sweetness, and tang. The texture includes tender beans with crisped bacon bits throughout. This hearty side can complement grilled or comfort-style meals and is served hot.

Description

The recipe starts by frying thick-cut bacon until nearly crispy, then chopping it into pieces. Excess grease is drained before adding rinsed pinto and black beans, BBQ sauce, minced jalapeño, chopped yellow onion, light brown sugar, and yellow mustard to the pan. This mixture simmers on low heat, allowing flavors to blend and the sauce to thicken.

After simmering for about 20 minutes, the bacon pieces are added back and heated for a couple more minutes to combine warmth and texture. The result is a rich, smoky-sweet bean side dish with a mild hint of heat from the jalapeño. Serving it hot highlights its comfort-food appeal.
