Crab Butter Sauce

Crab Butter Sauce is a versatile butter base infused with optional seasonings like garlic, red chili flakes, cayenne pepper, or lemon zest and juice. It provides a rich, flavorful accompaniment for crab legs, enhancing their natural sweetness with buttery, tangy, or spicy notes.

Description

This Crab Butter Sauce starts by melting butter gently over medium-low heat, ensuring it does not brown. Once melted, optional seasonings such as finely diced garlic, red chili flakes with cayenne pepper, or lemon zest are added and heated until fragrant. Fresh lemon juice is stirred in at the end, adding brightness to the sauce. A small pinch of sea salt may be used depending on whether the butter is salted or the crab is heavily seasoned.

The sauce is served warm alongside crab legs, allowing the butter to complement the seafood's natural sweetness and enhance its flavor with layers of garlic, heat, or citrus depending on the chosen variation.

For convenience, the butter sauce can be made ahead, stored in the refrigerator for up to five days, or frozen for up to six months. Freezing in smaller portions, such as silicone molds, allows easy thawing of needed amounts.
