Crab Dip Recipe
Description
The Crab Dip blends crab meat with soft cream cheese, mayonnaise, garlic and onion powders, smoked paprika, and green onions for a creamy, flavorful base. Topped with Monterey Jack cheese, it is baked until melty and golden, with a final broil to brown the cheese slightly. Diced tomatoes and additional green onions garnish the dip, adding freshness and color.
This dip’s texture is creamy and slightly chunky from the crab, while the smoked paprika provides a gentle smoky warmth. Baking melds the flavors and creates a slightly crisp cheese topping.
Serve the crab dip warm as an appetizer alongside crackers, sliced baguette, or vegetable sticks. Its rich flavor and creamy mouthfeel make it suitable for parties or casual get-togethers.
Using real lump crab is recommended for the best flavor, though frozen or canned crab can be used. Imitation crab meat is an option but will alter the taste. The dip can be prepared in an oven-safe skillet or baking dish based on preference.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces crab meat
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 cup green onion divided use, sliced
- 1 1/2 cups Monterey jack cheese divided use, shredded
- 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
- cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Coat a small baking dish or oven proof skillet with cooking spray.
- Place the crab, cream cheese, mayonnaise, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, 1/4 cup green onions and 1/2 cup Monterey Jack cheese in a bowl. Stir to combine.
- Spread the crab mixture evenly into the prepared dish. Top with the remaining cup of cheese.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until dip is bubbly and cheese is melted. Broil for 1-2 minutes until cheese has started to brown.
- Top with remaining 1/4 cup green onions and tomatoes, then serve immediately.
Notes
- Using real lump crab meat is recommended for authentic flavor, but frozen or canned crab meat works well too.
- The dip can be baked in either an oven-safe skillet or a baking dish, depending on what you have available.
- Imitation crab meat can be used if necessary, but expect a milder crab flavor.
