Crab Imperial

Crab Imperial is a baked seafood casserole combining blue crab meat with a creamy mixture of mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon, garlic, and herbs. The dish has a delicate yet rich flavor, featuring tender crab meat held together with bread crumbs and topped with a golden browned crust. It's commonly served warm as a starter or light main course.

Description

This Crab Imperial recipe uses lump or blue crab meat mixed with a blend of shallots, Dijon mustard, finely minced parsley, lemon juice and zest, grated garlic, and mayonnaise. The mixture is gently combined with bread crumbs and seasoned with coarse sea salt to enhance the natural sweetness of the crab.

The assembled mixture is then spread into a buttered casserole dish and topped with additional bread crumbs, which create a crisp golden crust as it bakes in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 15-20 minutes. This gentle baking warms the mixture through without breaking apart the tender crab meat.

Crab Imperial is typically served with lemon wedges or a complementary sauce like beurre blanc for added richness. It makes an elegant appetizer or light entrée, suited to occasions where delicate seafood flavors are desired.
