Crack Potatoes

Crack Potatoes are baked cubed potatoes topped with butter, bacon bits, ranch dressing, and melted cheese, creating a creamy and savory side dish. The potatoes bake covered until tender, absorbing the rich flavors from the butter and bacon. After baking, ranch dressing and cheese are stirred in and melted, coating the potatoes with a smooth, cheesy texture. This dish offers a comforting blend of crispy edges and soft interiors.

Description

In this recipe, cubed potatoes are baked covered with butter and real bacon bits until tender at 400°F. The butter melts into the potatoes, enriching their natural flavor while the bacon bits add saltiness and savory taste. Once softened, ranch dressing and cheese are mixed with the potatoes and returned to the oven briefly to melt the cheese, forming a creamy coating.

The result is a hearty potato dish with a balance of textures—the tender potatoes contrast with melted cheese and bacon’s slight crispness. The ranch dressing adds a tangy note that complements the richness from butter and cheese.

This dish works well as a side for grilled meats or as a comforting standalone snack. Using real bacon bits enhances flavor authenticity, and stirring the ingredients post-bake ensures even coverage. Cooking until fork tender prevents underdone centers while secure covering during baking helps retain moisture.
