"Crack Snack" Sweet and Salty Snack Mix

This "Crack Snack" combines Crispix cereal and chopped pecans coated in a buttery brown sugar caramel that bakes to a crunchy, sweet, and salty treat. The snack mix offers a balance of crispy texture from the cereal and nuts alongside a rich caramel coating, making it an addictive choice for snacking or parties.

Description

The recipe creates a sweet and salty snack mix by first spreading Crispix cereal and chopped pecans on foil-lined baking sheets. A caramel sauce is prepared by boiling salted butter with packed light brown sugar, then poured over the cereal and nuts. The coated mixture is tossed together to ensure even distribution before baking in a 325°F oven.

Baking occurs in two stages of 8 minutes each with stirring in between, which allows the caramel to set and fully coat the snack components. Once cooled, the mix is broken apart to separate clumps, yielding a crunchy, sticky, and flavorful snack.

This mix provides satisfying textures and a refined sweet-salty flavor combination, suitable for casual snacks or sharing. The recipe can be halved for smaller quantities, and additional flavor can be added with cayenne for a spicy kick.

Line baking sheets with foil or parchment paper for easier cleanup as the caramel hardens on the pan surface.
